One Friday evening, just before Midsummer, we set out to explore the Azerbaijani restaurant Baku. On arrival, the impressively large building was a pleasant surprise. The chef's quirk of serving dishes without any seasoning we could not quite fathom. The wine service, too, was rather unconventional.

Church Night, taking place this year for the first time and so far only in Riga, unfolded much like Museum Night, with houses of worship of various denominations opening their doors to visitors on the evening of 6 June from 18:00 to 24:00. Where to begin? We start with the nearest neighbourhood and the congregations within it. Sarkandaugava has three houses of worship - Lutheran, Catholic, and Orthodox (the last was closed to visitors that night).
One of the most significant expense items for a company is wages. In SEZ companies (including B.L.B Baltic Terminal) in 2012, the average net wage was 530 EUR. Assuming the company directed all its profit towards wages, the maximum theoretical wage would increase by only ~100 EUR.
I likely chose this book in the bookshop precisely because of the provocative chapter subtitles that promised to explain - why you should never let anyone buy you a drink; why you need not respect authority; why you should leave your model girlfriend at home; why it is better to use a wrong map than no map at all; why rational people do not appeal to reason. Intriguing, isn't it?
What could be more entertaining on election day than reading about the agony of a party that has lost popularity, as it spreads information - now about the deliberate removal of ballot lists, now about vote fraud and bribery of the commission, now about how commission members will add unused ballots to the results and therefore they must on no account be left at the polling station.
Although the European Parliament elections are not those that will directly affect our (and your) lives, if there is an extra opportunity to choose the one you prefer, it is at least worth thinking about: a) whether to participate in the elections, b) if participating, then whom to vote for, and finally - c) if voting, then why for this particular party or candidate?
I want to recommend an event we try to attend every year during the Midsummer holiday - the Great Latgale Market at the ancient hillfort of Ludza. What appeals to me is the location - a hill with an ancient aura surrounded by lakes; the timing - it seems that on those days all the herb wreaths, handmade goods and jewellery carry the midsummer mysticism; and the emotional atmosphere. This year too, for the sixth time on 21 June, craft masters, farmers, singers and dancers from Latgale and beyond will gather together to organise the Great Latgale Market and celebrate the summer solstice. Visitors will be able to watch demonstrations of ancient crafts in outdoor workshops and ancient Latgale wrestling, participate in games and sing along with folklore ensembles. It's sure to be interesting for everyone, young and old. Adults will be able to purchase festive table treats and enjoy themselves, while children can ride horses, cuddle farm animals or learn to weave Midsummer wreaths. Free admission.
Did you know that on the grounds of the Riga Centre for Narcology and Psychiatry there is a square-shaped pond and a sculpture called "The Shattered Soul"? Did you suspect that a "Rīga" washing machine - once the sole helper for our mothers in doing the laundry - is on display in a place of honour at the RER Museum? Can you imagine that Aldaris will soon be not just a brewery, but a place to enjoy beer and good live music?

My task was to observe my feelings for 2–3 weeks and keep a diary, so I could consciously track the changes happening to me. My mind was busy with various speculations about the method.
