Song Festival 2013 Procession
Now, looking back through the photographs of inspired faces and the vigour of songs and dances, this elevated mood involuntarily sticks - and one hopes it will remain in everyone, both participants and spectators, for the next five years, until the next grand festival of national communal singing and dancing.
Although the festival procession had begun in the morning at 10:00 and set off from 11 November Embankment to Dailes Theatre, we arrived in the centre around 14:00, just as the Latgale choirs and dance ensembles were passing "Sakta" along Brīvības Street. They were followed by festival participants from various countries of the world where Latvian communities are active. The procession was concluded by Riga's ensembles from culture centres, associations, schools and universities, and well-known companies such as Statoil, Grindex, Swedbank, and others.
