I invite you to attend the flamenco dance club "Duende"'s grand annual concert "La primavera" on 26 May this year at 18:00 at the independent theatre "Skatuve" at Maskavas iela 108/110!
The concert will feature "Duende" dancers, as well as guests - the Daugavpils flamenco dance studio and the Spanish music ensemble "Los Daugavas Nens" with the charismatic Spaniard Javier Fernández Cruz.
Tickets can be ordered by calling 29119906 and 29137444 or collected at the "Duende" studio in Riga, Baznīcas iela 31. Seats are limited.
Museum Night this year will be dedicated to the colour blue and the sea. This begins a three-year cycle reflecting three of Latvia's treasures - the blue sea, the green forest (2013) and the red amber (2014). The three-colour harmony echoes the three-colour sun code expressed in Rainis's poetry: "The sun rises three-coloured again: Now blue, now green, now red."
From 30 March to 30 April, the Spanish Cultural Centre Seneca (Elizabetes iela 18, 3rd floor) will host Alise Mediņa's painting exhibition "Andalusian Sun". Visitors are invited to see two of the most beautiful cities of Andalusia through the artist's eyes - Granada and Seville.
Vivid colours, the refined architecture of Andalusia, mysterious courtyards, passionate women, horse-drawn carriages - all this and much more the artist A. Mediņa has sought to capture in her paintings. Most of the paintings were created in the authentic environment of Andalusia, mingling among the Spanish crowd, carefully observing everything around her and absorbing the atmosphere.
This season too, fashion accessories and crafts are in the spotlight! That's why, alongside fabric, clothing and equipment manufacturers, the exhibition "Intertextil Balticum 2012" from 13 to 15 April at Ķīpsala will feature craft masters with wonderful works in all kinds of craft techniques, artisans of various trades, costume and fashion accessory designers, and wholesale suppliers of materials.
This year the exhibition will showcase a wide variety of masterworks: knitwear, textile mosaics, embroidery, leather goods, jewellery in various techniques, diverse fashion accessories, exclusive clothing details, bags, wallets, hats, various keepsakes and much more. All these beautiful things in one place will create a true fashion accessories and crafts paradise at Ķīpsala.
Browsing the web I stumbled upon a foreign quiz site with a collection of several more or less serious tests. The most interesting to me were various image tests, where by choosing a certain picture you can read a description of some aspect of your personality.
I'll introduce you to one such test, which was called the world's shortest personality test. The task is to choose one of nine images that, in your opinion, most accurately reflects your essence. The key is not to strain yourself with deep analysis but to pick the image that most intuitively appeals to you.
On Valentine's evening, 14 February this year at 19:00 at Palladium Riga, Linda Leen presents the concert CINEMA. Together with guitarist Kaspars Zemītis and guest artists, she promises to create a live soundtrack to a video world on screen. Tickets available at Biļešu Paradīze box offices - from Ls10 to Ls25. Judging by reviews from her concert at Dailes Theatre, it will be very enjoyable.
On 16 January this year, the new semester begins at the flamenco dance studio „Duende" (Baznīcas iela 31, Riga), running for 15 weeks until the end of April. The first week of May will be free, after which preparations begin for the annual concert and, of course, the performance.
A new beginners' group is also being formed, with the opportunity to learn Spanish dances twice a week - Mondays at 18:00 (flamenco dance basic technique, rhythm) and Wednesdays at 18:00 (Andalusian dance Sevillanas). Bring comfortable clothing (trousers or a long skirt, a fitted top) and shoes with a stable 4–5 cm heel, as well as plenty of patience and determination.
In Riga from 2 December to 15 January you can walk the Christmas Tree Trail. This year there are 42 trees to see, starting from the first, main tree in Dome Square - the "Romantic Tree" - and ending with the "Dragon Guardian Tree" outside Bolderāja Music and Art School. You can view the Christmas Tree Trail 2011 map here!
Today I stopped by Kr.Barona iela 2 in Riga to see the contemporary art exhibition "Women's Inner Space". The creators describe the exhibition's core idea as the world of a modern woman - a space filled with a woman's strength, wisdom, longing for love and closeness. The exhibition is conceived as a captivating journey into the worlds of various women, capturing the felt sense of life of Latvian women today. A woman's beauty, wisdom and talent to create and inspire are values that generate life and shape Latvia's present.
The exhibition features works by both established and emerging women artists - paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations and textiles. An interesting and thought-provoking photography series by Monika Pormale, „Miss World", where each woman's image reflects her individuality, and each woman is beautiful and unique - each one a Miss Uniqueness.
For those who care about our future well-being and health - you are invited to a residents' meeting about air pollution from the company MAN-TESS! The meeting will take place on Sunday, 6 November 2011 at 16:00 at the stairwell entrance of the building at Tvaika iela 50.
The invitation has been circulated by activists from nearby buildings - Tvaika iela 48 and 50, and Gaujienas iela 1 - and can be found on the notice boards in those stairwells.
Although MAN-TESS provides employment for many local residents, those living nearby are no longer willing to tolerate the unbearable smell that apparently arises during the handling of petroleum products. The strikingly frequent appearance of the unpleasant odour also points to inadequate work by the supervisory authorities.
