This time about how with own hands we can make vintage style dishes – mug, saucer, fruit dish, plate. Further about the process, available materials and result.
We need:
-plain mug or plate
-rice paper or serviette with floral design or other, easy cutting out, design
- Acrylic paint (white, dark brown, green, yellow)
-craquelure (it’s a varnish) for porcelain and ceramics
-glue with gold powder
-decoupage glue
-varnish (matte or glanced) on eluant base
-scissors
-brush
-a piece of porolone
-rubber gloves
Step 1.From serviette or rise paper we cut out flowers or other images straight to outline.
Step 2. We paint the plate or the mug with acrylic paint, which is chosen to be the base, and is going to be seen in cracks. Dark brown tone looks very good. Wait until it’s dry, waiting about a half an hour, or with hairdryer.
Step 3.We cover one layer of craquelure with brush, and then dry it.
Step 4.With brush or better with a piece of porolone we cover light acrylic paint top layer. Furthermore we need to follow that there was only one paint layer, that means if we paint once, then there we don’t go a second time. When it’s drying, there are going to show some cracks. Furthermore – every work becomes unique, because every time the crack is different. The worse preceding layer is dried, the bigger cracks become.
Step 5.When all paint and varnish layer are dried, then we glue flowers and other images on the mug with decoupage glue. Then we put it to dry, for about 24 hours.
Step 6.In order that surface of the mug was resistant in use, washing or rinsing in water, we need to cover it with two or maybe even three layers of varnish on eluant base. Then put it to dry for about 48 hours.
To sum up – if there’s a need, and then you can fix edges or scratch out some accidental paint or varnish drops with razor. So there it is – dish made in vintage style!
