Today I once again treated myself at lunch to the beloved Latvian dark rye bread with seeds. So hearty and delicious you just can't get enough. It doesn't happen often, but when we drive out to the countryside, it's become a kind of ritual to stop in the Aizkraukle district at „Liepsalas" (not far from the turning to Pļaviņas) to buy a freshly baked, still-warm loaf. All things considered, "Liepkalnu" bread is far tastier than Lāči bread and considerably more affordable too. To anyone who hasn't yet discovered Liepkalnu products, I recommend giving them a try!
iinuu visitors have probably noticed that we have a particular soft spot for that non-flying bird, the penguin. Once again, I couldn't resist this online shop find – speakers built into plush penguin toys that can be connected to a computer and placed on a desk, or plugged into a music player or iPod and taken along (though it's hard to imagine where you'd actually fit those chubby little things for carrying).
A reminder for all museum and night event fans – this year the Museum Night event takes place on May 16th. This year the main focus will be on Latvian culture and local themes. I suggest finding your mantra this spring - something to hum and keep the negatives from entering your mind. A slightly crazy idea, but ...
