The Film "Hannah Arendt" (2012)

The Film "Hannah Arendt" (2012)

This is a biographical film about the German political theorist, publicist and philosopher of Jewish origin Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) and her period of life in the USA, when she was preparing a series of reports for The New Yorker on the trial of war criminal Eichmann in Jerusalem. The articles caused a great stir in society. She allowed herself to distance herself from national identity and philosophised about evil.

Latgalian Love Poetry

Latgalian Love Poetry

In honour of the celebration of all lovers, I decided to compile poetry in the Latgalian language. It turns out this task is not so easily accomplished. Latgalian poets have gladly written and continue to write about the fatherland, the language, nature, the mother, God - but when it comes to feelings between two people, there is silence or a barely perceptible touch. As if it were not quite comfortable to speak of such things. And yet...

Leonid Matsikh's Lectures on Freemasons and the Role of Women in World History

Leonid Matsikh's Lectures on Freemasons and the Role of Women in World History

We came across the lectures of Russian philosopher, theologian and philologist Leonid Matsikh in connection with the topic of Freemasonry. We watched the programmes with considerable pleasure, as the speaker is quite charismatic, with a rich command of language and well-formed views. Searching further for material from this wise man's lectures, we found two 2012 television programmes devoted to the role of women in shaping world history.

The result was that the artist created tapestries based on sketches with the most characteristic elements of each social class - colours, patterns, objects, and types.

In this list I would like to share the films made and seen last year that we found to be good, based on the principle that they spoke to us from a philosophical, literary-historical or purely visually enjoyable perspective. Usually one casts a glance at such lists to reassure oneself that everything on it has already been seen.

What Is Your Personal Year in 2014?

Numerologist Dita taught me how to calculate the personal year and determine what awaits in that year - its predisposition and mood. It was a new, interesting experience, and moreover one grounded in the mathematical approach I find close to heart. Here is how it is calculated.

A Gingerbread Rabbit Garland

A Gingerbread Rabbit Garland

Today, on the last day of the year, I baked gingerbread in rabbit and apple shapes. But the result was so many rabbits (they are known to multiply rather well :) ) that a bright idea came to me: make a gingerbread garland - a decoration for the kitchen window. As a result, the sweetly spiced gingerbread scent that has now filled the whole apartment will linger with us a little longer.

You've Got to Eat the Mushroom

You've Got to Eat the Mushroom

Collecting matchboxes and selling them online, founding an association for research into anomalous phenomena, creating a typing speed measurement tool, making an art installation from burnt-out light bulbs, and so on. Sometimes, seeing something created in this way, one wants to exclaim - what mushrooms has he been eating?!

Christmas Gifts in Jars

Christmas Gifts in Jars

Every year, and this year is no exception, I make handmade gifts for friends and colleagues. This year they will be gifts in jars. The idea came to me to create themed jars that would serve both as gift packaging and later as storage containers around the home. I will share the recipes for seven gift jars, though there are many more ideas.
