Have you ever felt the spirit of Christmas on a summer's day? We visited this picturesque Bavarian town a couple of years ago, at the end of summer - late August, it seems. The Christmas spirit made itself felt everywhere, despite the facades of the old houses being richly adorned with flowering pots of plants in the most varied and cheerful colours. So what was it that created this winter solstice feeling?
All the IT company logos reviewed here are well-known and familiar to the eye. But what were the origins of these logos? Who were their inventors, their creators? How did they develop over the years to become what we see today? For example, did you know that the first Apple logo depicted Isaac Newton himself?
Chocolate is made from cocoa powder and cocoa butter, with sugar added, and all this supplemented with cream or milk powder, nuts, raisins or other ingredients. Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine, which gives a person pleasure, a sense of happiness and improves mood. Psychologists, for their part, claim that having a bar of chocolate to hand is an excellent means of improving communication.
Nowadays the accepted wisdom is that one should change jobs every five years, but many also acknowledge that a job should be changed not when a set time has passed, but when one simply can no longer stay where one is - guided by inner feeling. What is the optimal length of time a person can work in one job without reaching "burnout" or professional distortion? That is, how long can one do the same work day in, day out, without losing one's inner "spark"?
Phantasmagoria in several episodes. And then he slowly leaned slightly forward, and their lips met in a long and passionate kiss, something like that...
Various theories exist as to why blonde hair appeared and spread during evolution, and why the majority of women since time immemorial have strived to bleach or dye their hair blonde. One of them explains that fair skin and fair hair help people accumulate more vitamin D in those northern regions where there is less sun. Canadian anthropologist Peter Frost simplifies it: the spread of blonde hair occurred because men preferred fair-haired women - that was natural selection.

Greetings to all on Latvia's 91st birthday! Red-and-white flags are flying on all buildings in Latvia, on the November embankment in Riga and on the castle tower. I decided to look into the history of the national flag's creation, as well as where these colours came from and who were their first bearers. The flag design was created based on historical evidence from the Livonian Rhymed Chronicle.
That can safely be said of a woman dressed in a gown by designer Mari Cruz from her new 2009–2010 collection. I was fascinated by the bold, vibrant colour combinations that both challenge and harmonise with one another, and unmistakably speak to you and capture your attention. Moreover, the garments are presented in a setting that enhances the mood - natural dark-wood interiors, an antique painting in a gilded frame, a church vestibule with candles, Arabic patterned tiles on the wall (a common sight in Spain and Portugal), a view of Seville's old town, and so on.
Yesterday, 14 November, around 18:00, several Riga building facades were coloured by light beams of various hues, rhythmic shadows wandered along the walls, fish silhouettes began dancing in the sewer manholes. The second light festival in its history - "Staro Rīga" - had begun. The main installations were concentrated precisely in Old Riga and the city centre, so the streets were full of people - every other one with a camera in hand. See video and photos.
