Jūrmala Resort Season 2011 Closing Concert

Horna Garden in Majori had gathered a sizeable crowd of spectators and listeners. On the large screen, three feature films were screened throughout the day; then towards evening, beloved melodies of the past century rang out from the repertoires of Édith Piaf, Joe Dassin, and Mireille Mathieu.

Yesterday, 27 August, the weather was as if made to order - the air warmed to +29°C and a pleasant south wind ruffled the summery clothes of Jūrmala's visitors. It was truly the close of the resort season, for today, looking out the window again, one has to acknowledge that autumn has practically already arrived.

Katrīna Gupalo, Laimis Rācenājs, and Anna Zaiceva performed, accompanied by the group Tango Sin Quinto. It was pleasant to see a few pairs from the audience dancing the tango beside the small stage. The closing act featured the cello trio Melo M and dancers.

The highlight - the festive fireworks display - took place at 20:30, when the sky was still light enough to prevent one from fully appreciating the splendour of the fiery blooms.

We didn't stay for the night ball, but we walked as far as Majori beach and Dzintari Concert Hall, where Igo's own-compositions concert was taking place. Right there on the beach a large bonfire had been lit, around which a few holidaymakers broke into dance. We settled into the white poufs set out on the beach at the Havana Club Lounge, where we enjoyed cocktails and live music. For them, as for many other beach bars and cafés, this was the last night of outdoor operation.

This summer season has passed - long live the next!
