RELIVING LEGENDS NYE Party at Andrejsala

This time we welcomed the New Year not at or under the tree at home, but at the event RELIVING LEGENDS NYE PARTY, held at the "Floating Workshop" on Andrejsala. In fact I only spotted the poster online on the afternoon of 30 December and at the last moment decided to buy tickets. I was inspired by the idea that we'd be able to watch the midnight fireworks from the ship's deck - sort of - and dance to live music.

This time we welcomed the New Year not at or under the tree at home, but at the event RELIVING LEGENDS NYE PARTY, held at the "Floating Workshop" on Andrejsala. In fact I only spotted the poster online on the afternoon of 30 December and at the last moment decided to buy tickets at Statoil. I was inspired by the idea that we'd be able to watch the midnight fireworks from the ship's deck - sort of - and dance to live music.

The venue truly turned out to have a relaxed atmosphere, without any superfluous details or embellishments. The dance-hall atmosphere was created by the customary haze, coloured lights from several massive spotlights, and a mirror ball at the ceiling.

Two spaces - to the left a disco dance floor, where from 20:00 to 7:00 various DJs (Arturs Mednis, Foxy Mandy, and others) played music throughout the night; to the right - a hall with live music (we danced to the bands Astro'n'Out and Pete Anderson & the Swamp Shakers).

The dress code was dress as your legend, so several people wore Elvis sunglasses, wide patterned ties; there were also Madonna tulle skirts, Audrey Hepburn's long black dress and long gloves, various wigs, lots of costume jewellery, sparkling sequins, wandering Arab travellers, a Cleopatra lookalike, Dalí moustaches, a Cuban revolutionary, an astronaut, and other post-legends.

Everything was as it should be - we only barely didn't miss the night's main event, the moment of the New Year's turning, because it was not announced at all (at least not in the hall where we were). Only the fireworks flashing in the night sky visible in the distance gave one the hint that the real moment had arrived. The dampness from the proximity of the water discouraged us from watching the fireworks from the ship's deck. We clinked our Tullamore glasses, and the New Year could begin.

A few snapshots and videos from the event for a glimpse. Sorry about the sound quality - the acoustics in the ship's interior were not the best; there was melody and rhythm, but the lyrics were almost impossible to make out.
