Riga City Festival 2010
Although yesterday the rather unfriendly fine drizzle prevented us from fully enjoying all the festival events, we did attend several of them, and it was interesting - aerobatic display flights, a puppet procession, a retro car parade, an artisans' market, a show at the Small Guild, an open house day at the Russian Drama Theatre, and of course the fireworks.
Although yesterday the rather unfriendly fine drizzle prevented us from fully enjoying all the festival events, we did attend several of them, and it was interesting.
At midday, taking advantage of Rīgas Satiksme's free offer, we went to watch the WEAF - World Elite Acrobatic Flying displays above the Daugava and Vanšu Bridge - then wandered past the many vendors' stalls, admired the vintage vehicles drawn up by the Riflemen Monument, popped into the Small Guild to watch the joint Latvian-Finnish youth production "Black Cat", and visited the Russian Drama Theatre on its open house day.
In the evening, trotting four stops' distance to the nearest transport - since tram No. 5 service from Sarkandaugava had been suspended and no alternative means of travel, paid or free, had been offered - we hurried to the festival fireworks display, during which seven pyrotechnics teams gave their performances. The cool wind on Vanšu Bridge gave notice that autumn was approaching with a vengeance.
