Friday Observation. Tea
In the middle of the room, one younger and one older Russian-speaking young men had each ordered the largest pizza, which they were then quickly eating, washing it down with tea - not cola, as one might clichédly imagine.
After a longer break I decided to drop in at a nearby café. I cast my eye over the tables of customers; two caught my attention. At one sat 3 young people, playing chess on a large chess board with massive pieces. Next to it, awkwardly placed, a portion of pie - apparently for the only lady in the group. In the middle of the room, one younger and one older Russian-speaking young men had each ordered the largest pizza, which they were then quickly eating, washing it down with tea - not cola, as one might clichédly imagine. After a while a well-dressed man with a brown wallet entered, and assessing the modest selection of food and drink, hesitated slightly and, in a well-pitched voice, ordered coffee in Russian. I was certain he would order something stronger.
Friday.
