Recruiter Stories #7: Oh No, the Millennials Are Coming!
An interview with a 22-year-old young woman, Lūsija, who tried working once before for nine months but didn't really enjoy it, as she didn't feel respect from management. Now she is studying and applying for a vacancy that matches her chosen speciality.
Standard questions to start with, about experience, skills, personality traits, motivators and the like. Then follow questions from the candidate. All of them are about... how to end an employment relationship. Lūsija asks in detail about what happens if she doesn't like the job, whether she has the right to terminate the employment relationship without notice and not come in to work the next day.
I explain that during the probationary period both parties have the right to terminate the employment relationship without detailed explanation, but simply not coming in to work the next day without warning is not the best form or the most appropriate way of going about it. Lūsija doesn't give up - but what if it turns out she absolutely cannot bear it, could she just stop coming to work? There is supposedly a requirement to give three days' notice before terminating an employment relationship, but... could she nevertheless tell them and then not come?
And in this vein, another six or seven questions. What do you think - did the candidate make it to the final round?
